Ted 2

Swanner: When you realize that Ted 2 opens this weekend, you have to wonder why. Didn’t we solve all the world’s trouble in the first one? We had our happy ending and the bad guy lost, so why a sequel? It made $218 million dollars, becoming the highest grossing R rated comedy of all time, and $549 million dollars worldwide. That’s reason enough, but Seth MacFarlane also had a solid story to making this a legitimate offering.

Ted married Tami Lyn and, once their marriage starts to fail they do what most couples do at that point, they have a baby. A problem arises because Ted had no genitalia, so the search for a donor starts. Bigger problems arise when the state realizes Ted is a stuffed animal and doesn’t get the same rights humans do, so Ted must fight for his rights. Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth and MacFarlane star.

Director MarFarlane is a very funny man and people aren’t giving him the love he deserves. His last film A Million Ways to Die was very funny, but people called it no Blazing Saddles. I understand the comparison of MacFarlane with Brooks. If you look at Brooks films, not all of them are Young Frankenstein quality. History of the World and High Anxiety are still funny movies but no Blazing Saddles. Ted 2 is funnier than it’s predecessor with an unending run of jokes and pratfalls to fill two hours; and great cameos and gags that not everyone will get because of continuous laughter. Get out of the heat and spend some time with your favorite Teddy.
